I love a bunch! Not all of these are D&D, but they are all TTRPG actual play podcasts and they are wonderful. I can recommend (these aren’t in any particular order, they are all amazing):
Prism Pals, @prismpals-blog (there isn’t much on the tumblr, but they are more active on twitter at @ Prismpals). This is an amazing family friendly queer podcast featuring a party of amazing characters. I don’t want to go into spoiler details, but it is a wonderful story. Originally it was D&D but recently they’ve switched over to Quest instead because of all the issues with D&D. The show recently added a new cast member, and their character is amazing already. They also do a yearly ‘Pride week’ where they team up with other queer podcasts to release a week’s worth of one shots that are all queer-focused and tend to be amazing. The first few episodes of the podcast are a bit dark in places (child npc in danger among other things), but it gets lighter and after that the only child in danger is one of the pc’s (Gibbs, who is so cool and adorable). One of my favourite podcasts, absolutely amazing.
Dames and Dragons, @damesanddragons, is a D&D actual play podcast that’s very funny, very gay, and very awesome. Starting out on a floating island in the sky called Estra, the main characters have been raised to become Guardians of the Goddess. They are on Arc 6 of the podcast now and I can tell you that you will feel so many emotions with this show. It’s hilarious, but you’ll also deeply care about these characters and want them to succeed. The characters are wonderful. You will not regret listening to this podcast.
Here there be outcasts, which can be found at @ heretheybecast on twitter, is a wonderful podcast that I’ve only recently started listening to. Set in a world where magic is outlawed, it follows two characters at first - Meredith and Jaspar. Meredith is just looking for their dog, and Jaspar may not be entirely what he seems. It has a lot of welsh influences (being produced in Cardiff) and is so good. I’m not fully caught up, but honestly it is amazing. This podcast started out using D&D, but is switching to a system custom made for the world that sounds like it’s going to be amazing! I may not be caught up yet but I love it so much and honestly would recommend to everyone.
Dice Disasters, @dicedisasters, a podcast in which Max, Zan, Cody, Jasmin, and Erika, strangers from the modern world, wake up in a facility that seems to be testing them and giving them magical abilities. Learn about the world they’ve found themselves in as the characters do! I love this podcast a lot. The characters are so good, it’s hilarious to listen to and the story is so amazing. Will recommend not listening whilst your partner who works from home is on a work call though, because it was so hard to keep myself from bursting out with laughter. :p The world is so well developed, and there are cats! Honestly I can’t wait to find out what happens in each new episode. I love this podcast so much, please listen to it.
Queer Dungeoneers, found on twitter at @ queerdungeons, is an actual play Dungeon World podcast, is so good. All these podcasts are and I feel like I’m repeating myself a lot, but it’s hilarious but has some amazingly emotional moments. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will love seeing these characters develop and try to save the world, repeatedly. Starting out trying to help Nim protect her town, the group get drawn into bigger and bigger threats. One of the characters is called Jolene Jolyne and is a halfling rogue who believes in a round earth, to the confusion of the rest of the world, who know that the world is flat. Other characters include Kremora Magnus, a necromancer who is part of one of the wealthiest families but very distant from them due to them being extremely awful, Nimay (mentioned above), a shapeshifting druid whose quest to protect her town draws the party together, Cygnana Cacklecast, an elf who used to be a swan and has a sister who is a snake, and later the character Patsy is introduced, a barbarian fighter who has been brought from the past to the present to help the party. Could not recommend this podcast more, I love it.
Rise of the Demigods, found at @ demigodsfall on twitter, is a prequel to another podcast called Godsfall, but I find I prefer Rise of the demigods much more. It’s queer, it’s amazing, the characters are relatable and trying to find a way to get away from the Temple of Udea, a place where all demigods are sent to learn about their powers, taken away from their families to eventually be put through tests that most don’t survive. Featuring Astrid Elvea, demigod of stars, an elven rogue/ranger with a giant wolf companion, Saint Barb, a human monk who is the demigod of Bones, Teodor Zildaya, a gnomish eldritch knight and the demigod of diamonds, and Janus de Cassiel, an assimar bard, the demigod of secrets. There are also a lot of loveable reoccuring npc’s, who are amazing. The cast is wonderful and the story is fantastic, please listen to this, it is great.
Dice Out, Now Game! This podcast can be found at @ diceoutnowgame on twitter. I’ve only recently started listening to this one and am only 5 episodes in, but the characters are so good already and what I’ve listened to so far is so good at drawing you in to the story and getting you to like the characters. I can’t give you too many details on plot or characters because I don’t know that much yet, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to become a favourite of mine and I’m very much looking forward to listening to the rest. Definitely would recommend :)
These are my current favourites (more will be added as I listen to more podcasts, I only recently got into listening to actual play podcasts and now I want to listen to so many). I’ve been recommended a bunch more on my list to listen to, including The Musafirs, Tabletop Potluck, The Lucky Die, Heart Beats, Dice Will Roll and Discount Dungeons. Based on who recommended them I’m pretty sure these are all amazing podcasts, and I’m planning to listen soon.
Critical Role is far from the only actual play podcast, and these are all fantastic examples of other actual play stories you can listen to and enjoy.
If you’ve been enjoying some non-CR D&D shows, drop a title in the comments! I’ve really been digging the Roll Like A Girl actual play podcast, a series of season-long girls-only campaigns.

Here’s a couple of dragons in love!
This is from Dungeon 1 of the podcast “Queer Dungeoneers”! I love this podcast, and I thought that drawing Kremora and Nimay as two dragons would be the best first post about QD.
The art for these dragons was inspired from Episode 97: Cosmic Sniffles. Give them a listen!
